The audacity! There’s a particular kind of hypocrisy that only billion-dollar tech companies can get away with. The way they dress it up, launder it through PR, and expect you to thank them for it is really something to observe. Take Amazon. This is a company that built its empire by training us to prioritize convenience over everything. And they’ve weaponized that dependence. Behind the two-day shipping is one of the most extractive business models in the modern economy. If a plague of locusts were a business, one that chews through labor and decimates the environment at scale, that would be AZN. This week they had the audacity to pitch a puff piece in Fast Company about their generous food pantry donations. But scratch the surface and it’s hard to miss the insult. This is a company that helped create the conditions for mass food insecurity and now wants praise for tossing scraps to the very people their policies helped push into poverty. Tell me that doesn't scream gaslighting and whitewashing!? At least Salesforce didn't try to sugarcoat their evil. Remember when they conned us all into thinking that they were a progressive beacon in tech? They told us that they were a company that champions equality, hosts mindfulness retreats, and rails against unjust policies. What have they actually been doing behind the scenes? They’ve volunteered their AI services to 🧊 to help them streamline hiring. Think about that. A platform that enables one of the most aggressive and dehumanizing arms of federal enforcement to hire faster. This is a company that is proudly partnering with the modern-day Gestapo. This is hypocrisy and opportunism in plain view. It's par for the course in corporate America and especially in big tech. These companies rely on a kind of soft-focus gaslighting. They bank on assuming the public is too distracted or overwhelmed to follow the money or connect the dots. They know our attention spans are short and our outrage cycles even shorter. We can’t let that slide. If we care about the systems we operate in, as founders, operators, or just citizens, we need to pay attention to who’s rewriting the rules and who’s laundering harm as progress. Not everything that looks like a win is one. And not every “impact initiative” is as clean as it sounds. Teddy Roosevelt had it right. When companies get this big, this unaccountable, and this arrogant, it’s time to bust 'em up. @Dr.Jim @Dr.Jim @Dr.Jim
