Wanted to share a story about how my love for stray kitties / colony kitties began. My family has always had cats many cats 😳😸🙂. My love for stray cats began when the orange kitty pictured Sammy past away due to old age. Went with my mom to Meriden humane society and we were just “looking”. Well instantly we fell in love with Sparky who had been a dumped friendly kitty in downtown Meriden. We adopted him. He was friendly and loving but missing friends. At the same time I had been caring for stray kitties at my rental shop in Durham CT. I had earned a kitties trust we named Tigger. I cared for her for probably 2 years roughly. She had been shot with a BB gun and came to me one cold night distressed. On that night I wrapped her in my carhart jacket and brought her home. She instantly knew how to use a litter box and was scared but happy to be out of the colony life. A few weeks later she had 5 babies under my parents oil tank 😳. Of course there was no way we would separate them. So we gave them names. Gary, Louie, Ginger, Gypsy, and Bear. All still live with my parents and have a good life except for Bear who passed at about 3 years old due to leukemia and Ginger who went missing. Tigger is an old girl these days but happy to have a good comfortable life. Tigger is the one who gave me my love for stray kitties and colony kitties. It’s amazing what caring for strays especially back in Connecticut through the cold winters can do for one’s soul. Warming milk and cat food up by a torpedo heater. Shoveling out 3 ft of snow in a blizzard to get to their shelters. Looking at the stray kitties appreciative faces when you dig out that final shovel full of snow to thier shelters and put fresh food and water out for them. There is just nothing like that look they give you. I hope more people can help look after the ever growing population of stray animals and pets being dumped. It’s the best medicine for anything a person is going through. Just was looking through old pictures from about ten years ago and figured I would share this nice story Mahalo.
