@gagank916: This video could’ve been a lot shorter lol but it’s something I’m very passionate about. I hope this resonates well within our community. Educate your friends, family members, guide strangers and newcomers the right way, the way our gurus set up the system for us. And always spread love 🫶🏼🫶🏼
also tables and chairs are being normalized too smh

hey i like the way you said it, i just wanna add like a ‘counter point’. within the gurdwara i go to, we do wear shoes even the uncles and aunties and gyanis. solely because the floors dirty and so one time i didn’t wear shoes, my feet were DIRTY no matter if i did the cleaning. so i do support what you’re saying but an aunty told me to put shoes on so idk but you defo have a point ❤

Yes same in canada i was in winnipeg gurudwara langar hall i saw some people who just had a family function in hall they all 3 were wearing shoes so i talked to one uncle who was from their family, i said that its not appropriate to wear shoes , the reason he gave me was its new slippers so i can. So i said him one day you will say i have new slippers i will go in darbar sahib hall. So he was king of felt humiliated. I saud sorry ik you r older than me and have more experience and knowledge but this thing is not appropriate. His family was listening to this talk. I felt sorry to them but i also said its not appropriate.

A lot of people are changing centuries long understandings to fit their lifestyle. We don’t wear shoes out of respect in the langar hall, and we should always cover our heads when we’re in any part of the Gurdwara.

I agree with your views. It’s sad that folks put their own comfort ahead of mariyada. Also langar is to had sitting on the floor, but sadly people think it’s normal to sit on chair/table (that’s only for disabled). All should sit on the floor, on the same level - rich poor doesn’t matter, sitting on the floor is to break your ego. All mariyada has a purpose

The Punjab Dialogue :
The Gurdwara Sahib in Richmond (BC) has a management committee that is clean-shaven, and they have put up a notice in the langar hall stating that langar should be eaten while sitting on benches. Their shoe racks are placed right next to the Darbar Sahib, where Shri Guru Granth Sahib Ji is, and the committee is pro-Modi and pro-India

I gurus were against rituals and “reeti ravage”. Core of Sikhism. With granth sahib ji are present, yes, respect should be shown. Langar hall is different where granth sahib ji are never ever present. For hygiene reasons, because we sit on floor, shoes should be taken off. Socks on. Have we thought about giving fresh pair of socks to everyone at langar hall just like head scarf.
This is 💯 — There are some gurudwara’s in Canada as well that allow shoes in the Langar hall as well. Tbh I say it how it is. If I see disrespect, I say it aloud especially if they know it is and if they don’t know, i usually explain it. Respect is respect rather they that like it or not. See something, say something. 🫡
