Clarification. China doesn't own all rare earths. Many countries also have rare earth. What China has is the technology to refine rare earth efficiently. If China choose to not sell refined rare earth to the US ... US can still buy and refine rare earth on its own.

I have to correct you on this, China, as I read it, has not yet gone on the offensive in the trade war with the US. China is still playing tit for tat and maneuvering, hoping to avoid to really damage the US. The US will however probably escalate to the point that China will intentionally make a move whose immediate or ultimate design and objective are harm the US. The impacts will be devastating.
