Homemade applesauce canning recipe⬇️ Making your own applesauce is SO easy and a great way to become more self-sufficient! You’ll never have to depend on those applesauce cups or pouches again! 💫 Not to mention, limit the amount of plastic going into the landfill. Here’s how to do it: 1) Core and slice the apples (peeling is optional - never do) 2) Soak in 4 cups water + 1/4 cup lemon juice (prevents browning) 3) Gently cook the apples in a large pot until soft (add a bit of water if they stick or get too thick) 4) Blend using an immersion blender (or transfer to a food processor) 5) Add 4 tbsp lemon juice for each 12 lbs of apples and stir well (don’t skip this step!) 6) Ladle hot apple sauce into hot jars, leaving 1/2” headspace 7) Process in a water bath canner for 20 minutes. After 20 min, turn off the heat, remove the lid and let sit for another 5 minutes 8) Remove jars and let cool completely before placing into storage. 🍎I never add sugar, it’s plenty sweet on its own! Sugar is not necessary to make the canning recipe safe, only the lemon juice is! 🍎Feel free to add some cinnamon as well! Have you tried making applesauce from scratch before?! I’d love to know ☺️.
