Artemis II is the first crewed mission in NASA’s Artemis program. The Orion spacecraft will be launched aboard the Space Launch System (SLS) rocket with four astronauts on board. This mission will not land on the Moon; it will only perform a lunar flyby before returning to Earth. Its purpose is to test all critical systems with humans on board, following the successful uncrewed Artemis I mission in 2022. The four astronauts who will take part in this mission are:👩🏻🚀👨🚀👨🏼🚀👩🏽🚀 1. Reid Wiseman (NASA, United States) – Mission Commander 2. Victor Glover (NASA, United States) – Pilot 3. Christina Koch (NASA, United States) – Mission Specialist 4. Jeremy Hansen (CSA, Canada) – Mission Specialist The main objectives of the Artemis II mission can be divided into two: ---------------------------------------- 1. Technology and Safety Testing Ensure that the Space Launch System (SLS) rocket and the Orion capsule are safe for human use after being tested uncrewed on Artemis I. Test Orion’s life support systems (air, temperature, water, CO₂ control, etc.). Verify communication, navigation, and emergency systems with humans on board. 2. Preparation for a Lunar Landing (Artemis III and beyond) Demonstrate that humans can safely travel to the Moon and return to Earth. Collect radiation data and environmental conditions important for long-term missions. Provide the crew with direct experience operating beyond Earth’s orbit, which will serve as the foundation for future missions: Artemis III → planned human landing on the lunar surface. Future missions → building a permanent lunar base as a stepping stone toward Mars exploration. #nasa #Artemis #aerospaceengineering #fyp #sains
