The first "ashaba" in Africa is the Mosque of the Companions (Masjid al-Sahaba) in Massawa, Eritrea, built around 615 CE by companions of the Prophet Muhammad who sought refuge from persecution in Mecca. The mosque is named for these companions, or "Sahaba," who are believed to be the first Muslims to arrive in the region. This makes it one of the earliest mosques in the world and the first in Africa.
Location: The mosque is located in the city of Massawa, Eritrea.
Purpose: It was built by early Muslim migrants, who were followers of the Prophet Muhammad, to provide a place for prayer.❤
