It can be ❤️‍🩹SO HARD to see someone you love hurting & heartbroken from the weight of loss & grief. The natural urge is to want to “fix” things when our loved ones are hurting, but #grief is a unique experience for each individual experiencing it. Therefore what a person “needs” in the form of support varies from person to person & moment to moment but I wanted to share a few supportive gestures from friends & family that have truly helped in my deepest times of sadness. I pray they bless someone that wants to be there but isn’t sure HOW, empower someone to be able to LOVE their person through the waves 🌊 that come with grieving, and help bring comfort. • • (1) - JUST BE WITH THEM. 🫂 When I lost my little brother I was completely crushed. The reality of losing him (after also having lost my mother) was too much for my mind to process and in the first few days and weeks I couldn’t bring myself to get out of bed. I’d wake up, realize he was gone, and try my best to go back to sleep so I wouldn’t have to face that truth. I remember one day my cousin Tiffany came over to check on me and I couldn’t bring myself to get up or to talk etc… so she met me right where I was. She just climbed in bed with me and lay beside me. Not a word was said, there weren’t any to say AND her laying there with me SAID IT ALL. 🥹😭♥️ It said “I’m here. I love you. I can’t fix this but I can be here with you in it.” - and it meant everything to me, even though I couldn’t even express that at the time. I’m so thankful she was THERE. • (2) HELP WITH THE LITTLE THINGS - when a person is grieving, it can take every ounce of mental and emotional energy to simply get up, move throughout the day, go to work or take care of the kids etc - ANYTHING that can lighten that load makes a WORLD of difference whether they can communicate that to you or not. Things like sending dinner over, helping to clean or helping book a cleaning service, laundry, picking the kids up for a few hours, helping kids with homework or to be ready for school, whatever can lighten the load or take one thing off their to-do list is a BLESSING. • (3) HEALTHY DISTRACTION- sometimes a change in scenery can help. Getting out of the house, going for a walk, fresh air & sunshine, hitting the gym, catching a movie, mani/pedi, brunch, or countless other activities that just may help a person to turn their feelings off & quiet their minds for just that time being. #griefconnect 🪴
