The thing about house music is that it started as a form of escapism for people that were marginalized from society during the 1980’s in Chicago. These were people of color, gay people, trans people, and women. The beautiful thing about house music is that it is accepting of anyone, but that obviously got flipped into making corporate profit. Everybody feels like they belong at raves because they buy a ticket and this attracts undesirables to your scene. House music started off as weird and eventually became cool, and the thing about people with money is they will pay to be part of that “cool” which dilutes the authenticity of the scene. It all ties back to capitalism and its many, many flaws.
