The verse actually makes sense once you actually understand who Jesus is it sounds like it doesn’t make sense but you gotta understand why it makes sense if your carefull we believe in one God 3 distincts person father son holy spirt so when Jesus prays it’s the son communicating with the father not God praying to him self Jesus became human so he prayed as a human showing teaching dependence and obedience to the father while still being divine his prayer doesn’t deny is divinity it actually reveals his relationship with the father and shows the reality of incarnation it’s not a contradiction it’s exactly what you would expect if God truly enters humanity cause God is Truth
