One will slow things down at the border, at least initially. The other will stop you from even getting on the plane if you’re not prepared. Here’s what you need to know 👇🏻 1️⃣ EES (Entry/Exit System) Launches October 12, 2025 This replaces traditional passport stamping. Instead, when you enter or exit the Schengen Area, your fingerprints and facial image will be scanned and logged electronically. ✅ Applies to all non-EU travelers, including Americans, Canadians, Australians, Brits, and more ✅ Tracks your entries, exits, and total time in the Schengen Zone ✅ Aims to reduce overstays and improve border security 📌 You don’t need to do anything in advance. This happens automatically at the border 📌 Expect longer lines at first as border systems adjust 2️⃣ ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorization System) Expected in late 2026 This is a separate system. It’s not a visa, but you will need to apply online, pay a fee, and get approved before your trip. ✅ Applies to travelers from visa-free countries like the U.S., Canada, and Australia ✅ Required for most top destinations in Europe ✅ Costs €7 and is free if you’re under 18 or over 70 ✅ Valid for 3 years or until your passport expires ✅ Most applications should be approved quickly, but it might take a few days 📌 You must apply in advance or you will not be allowed to board your flight If you’re planning a trip to Europe in 2025 or 2026 or beyond, this affects you. Be prepared so you don’t get turned away! 🎁 Once your flights are booked, make sure you’re packing smart too.
