Leaking when lifting? This one is for my athletic mamas!   Do you sprinkle 💦 when you strength train? It’s likely a core pressure management issue!   I’m always torn on this one because I respect the power lifting ladies but I wish more mommas would prioritize their pelvic floor health   You ever see those lifters that pee puddles when deadlifting? Yeah, that’s not ideal…  Your pelvic floor may not be able to handle the load! Make sure you’re progressing your gains in a way the whole body can tolerate.   A lot of people are coached to do the valsalva maneuver with their breath when lifting but BOY OH BOY does that put a heck of a lot of pressure on the pelvic floor.   Things to note:  1) be patient. Progress slowly so your PF has a chance to catch up! Work on loading the weight gradually!   2) make sure the right muscles are guiding the lift! If you’re deadlifting for example, make sure the legs are taking the brunt (not the back)  3) Breathe. Sorry valsalva users- when you hold your breath you’re literally pressing huge force on your PF!   4) watch the posture. If you’re lifting and you’re hunched or that spine is too curvy, you run the risk of misaligning that pressure system in the core   5) if you’re dedicated to the sport, and unwilling to adjust, either settle for peeing your pants in the gym or make sure you have a pelvic floor PT or coach in your corner who’s going to help you safely progress!   Strength training is amazing! Don’t let your pelvic floor hold you back!
