tragic heroes are amazing, however i feel like tragic villains (characters which fall into sin/evil due to circumstances which led them to be so) are even more interesting.

Because they are always described the best, their character like Dostoyevski done in his books, and because in general people like tragic characters hoping that at end they will become good. People like that in life, not just in literature.

It's much easier to identify and sympathize with tragic heroes, perfection doesn't attract me at all because I already know it doesn't exist.

Perhaps it’s because, regardless of grief, pain or even vengeance, hope remains the hardest love to bear, for we imagine tragedy as culmination, yet refusing to be an end?

The sense of having tragic heroes, firstly, is the need to connect with a figure that is kinda powerful, confident, humble and representing what the+

Maybe when we grow as adults and live through life, we tend to have as you said a balanced view to life and come to the realization that good doesn’t always win

I think we love the tragic heroes so much bc they kinda show how life rlly is. Not perfect but real with its ups and downs. We humans often like to think we are the only one suffering when rlly everyone does in some kind of way

i guess it’s a way to experience tragedy from the safety of the page or screen. you either get the satisfaction of seeing justice served to those with hubris or want to root for characters to overcome or heal from their tragic narrative

We readers are drawn to tragic heroes because perfection and clarity make a character predictable... and predictability is boring like a character with a normal, uncomplicated life leaves no room for emotional engagement or reflection and we crave complexity, we want to question the character's choices, witness their doubts, watch them fall and feel their struggle.. It's through their pain and failures that their eventual rise becomes powerful and meaningful, the journey from suffering to strength is what truly resonates with readers.

As a writer myself, I believe a tragic hero is what we all inspire to be, or try to relate to them, in a poetic sort of way. We read about these people who are described as powerful, wealthy, influential, etc and yet, they suffer, just like the rest of us. Or those who are downtrodden, considered lowly, beaten down constantly, may have some redemption. And maybe, just maybe, our lives arnt so bad in comparison

The everlasting human spirit is the ability to be beaten down and find the light at the end of the tunnel despite it. It’s one of the reasons I have always argued humans are inherently born with goodness inside of them, true hope cannot be taught whereas evil can. Loved your ideas on this!! It’s the whole there is not light without darkness idea and it’s so beautiful!

Most tragic hero for me is Nelyafinwe Maitimo Russandol (Maedhros) from J.R.R. Tolkien's 'The Silmarillion'. He's my most beloved fictional character of all times.
