POV: You moved from America 🇺🇸 to Italy 🇮🇹 and finally feel comfortable letting your 11 year old walk to school by himself without freaking out. I am at peace, my mind is at ease and my stress is zero to none when it comes to letting my child be independent abroad. For the record, I would not feel comfortable letting my Black son walk around by himself in the U.S. and especially not in the evening time. ‼️Raising a child in the U.S. scares me and raising a Black Boy in the U.S. especially scares me a lot.‼️ I feel a lot more comfortable letting him walk around our little town here. It was the same when we were in Greece, he’d be gone out playing with friends and would come back home late (9.30pm/10pm etc) and I didn’t freak out. Kids can walk around and get on the bus or the train by themselves and more! People ask me all the time “Do you feel safe out of the U.S.?” And I my true response is, “You live in the U.S., you really shouldn’t be asking me that.” And I mean that in the nicest but also truest way possible. And with gun laws 😣 sheesh scary! I feel like people live in a bubble in America and don’t realize how the rest of the world works and how things are. Ps, this is the norm here! Children can be children and feel free around town and parents have peace of mind! Another Ps, did you see y’all nephew run off 😂😂😂. He was gone with the wind 💨 Okay final Ps, we are living in Italy for the next 3 months and our son is attending a 3 month project based program here. Yes we are still homeschooling and nothing has changed. Aiden’s education is a mix of unschooling, in class learning, online learning and more. Feel free to type Boundless in the comment section or send me a DM with the word Boundless if you’d love to learn more about it. 😃 ➡️ Let’s discuss: (PS, there is NO right or wrong answer. You know your child best and you know you know your comfort level as a parent) 1. Where do you live? 2. Would you let your child walk by themselves to school? 3. Why or Why not? 4. Does the age make a difference? 5. Does the location make a difference? ……… #TheMomTrotterItaly
