While similar protests around the country were widely reported as peaceful with minimal police interaction or arrests, the Fairhope arrest has sparked outrage and ridicule. The arrest happened after officers were dispatched regarding complaints about “traffic hazards in the area.” Upon arrival, an officer observed an individual in a “phallic costume”. The officer then approached her and requested she remove her costume. Fairhope Police Lt. Shane Nolte said the woman will be charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest, both misdemeanors.
