its an interesting concept but i think that is just how many people visualize it in a more concrete way, at the end of the day you dont really meed math to use magic in frieren as ubel showed, is just a contest of how much your imagination is strong

projecting a ‘science’ onto magic is the misunderstanding in itself. we need it to study and practice, but it is not the ‘Truth’ of our reality, only our best approximation. you intuitively understand gravity but to do anything with that requires a system of understanding and communicating it. frieren only ‘uses math’ bc to do otherwise would reveal her hand, like her and fern forced her clone to. DOES NO ONE REMEMBER WATCHING THAT. she doesn’t need to ‘cast’. she wills it and it happens. true magic is pure intent.

Doesnt the suggestion of copying also support the visualization commentary made later in season from Übel? As there is a loophole in the magic where visualization can supercede this mathematic commentary? (Having its own downfalls but its also interesting)

Oh so magic in Frieren is communicating with the system itself to ask for what you want it to do. For Frieren she communicates with it in a mathematical sense and same for Fern. But others like Ubel communicates with her senses and uses what she knows what would happen as the basis to speak to magic. Like her cutting hair analogy. Still others connect to it like a language or others with emotion, through body language. Someone could paint with magic, with song, with dance. Frierens magic system is about intent and desire to change reality around you to your whim and to your will. Whether its through your own arrogance, through faith, or through equations the answer is always the same a belief in certainty that the desired effect will happen
