I lost my soul dog. when I took her prints in on my birthday and asked them to tattoo her paw print. I lost it. she gave me one of those mom hugs.

I call my artist uncle. I’ve known him since I was 12. He knows my family. He’s done their tattoos as well. I broke down to him about my mother (she’s an alcoholic and he knows it too). He doesn’t talk to her about me but he talks to me about her. He thinks what she did was wrong and refuses to feed her information about my life. I will forever be grateful for my time in his chair. Even if it’s only an hour at a time.

Vicarious Trauma is very real. As a therapist, this happens in several occupations: tattoo artists, EMTs, hair stylists, etc... This is a helping profession. Take care of you. 🖤

My favorite tattoo is my favorite because of the healing those sessions brought. He helped me fix something so broken and years later I think of it every single time I glance into the mirror.

My favorite tattoo is the one I got when I broke down to my tattoo artist of 6 years. I told him everything that happened in my DV situation and he was more caring than my own family was at the time. He healed a part of me I’ll never forget. Rest Easy Luis 🫶🏽🥺
