Caulk silicone around the fixtures except for a gap at the very bottom to allow for some drainage in case water somehow gets behind there. That was what we were told by our plumber.

Please make sure you caulk around the handle and faucet. You don’t want the water to get in there. The reason why it’s so dirty is because it was supposed to be caulked
