it’s been four years since I bought my house as a single woman, and here are 4 things I pay for because at the end of the day… I’m just a girl 💅 some people think I’m extra for this but honestly? I don’t care. I’m gonna BE extra. these are the things that make my life easier, safer, and way less stressful, and I will gladly pay for them every single month without question. first up: trash bin cleaning. yes, I pay someone $20 a month to come wash out my trash bins. could I do it myself? sure. would I be gagging the entire time? absolutely. so I’m not doing it. I have a guy who comes once a month, cleans them out, and I never have to think about it again. best $20 I spend all month. second: landscaping. me and lawnmowers have BEEF. I don’t even own one. back when I was in the military we had to do chores and duty, and cutting grass was one of them. never again in my life. so I don’t do landscaping. I feel like Stacey from Real Housewives of Potomac when she says she doesn’t know her landscaper… maybe I don’t either. all I know is he charges $35, I send him the money after he cuts my grass, and we keep it moving. third: security system. if you’re getting one installed, make sure you check with your county and city to see if there’s a fee just to have them monitor it or send someone out if your alarm goes off. some places charge for that and you don’t want to be surprised. but either way, I’m paying for it because my peace of mind is worth it. and this last one is an ABSOLUTE necessity: I pay for warranties on top of warranties on top of warranties. like clockwork, every single month. I have a home warranty that covers the basics, an appliance warranty specifically for my fridge, washer, dryer, all that, and an electronics warranty for my TVs and laptops because I have a lot of electronics. maybe I shouldn’t say that online but it’s fine, I got a security system remember? 😂 but real talk—if anything in my house breaks, I have someone to come fix it or replace it because I am NOT doing that myself. that’s for damn sure. I’m not out here trying to troubleshoot my HVAC or figure out why my dishwasher stopped working. I’m calling somebody, and the warranty makes sure I’m not paying out of pocket every time something goes wrong. so yeah, those are the 4 things I pay for regardless, because I’m just a girl and I like my life to be easy. if you’re a single homeowner or thinking about buying a house solo, seriously consider what you’re willing to DIY and what you’d rather just pay someone else to handle. there’s no shame in outsourcing the stuff you don’t want to do. drop a comment and tell me—what do YOU pay for that other people think is extra? let’s normalize making our lives easier 🏠
