Two days after this video of him bucking at a rodeo, Prairie was sold for slaughter. YES — the video is actually him bucking days before he was tagged and microchipped to ship to Mexico. When people realize that, they’re shocked. They think it’s just some random rodeo clip, but no — that’s Prairie, doing exactly what was asked of him. I guess he just wasn’t bucking hard enough. He was sold to the kill pen days later with the rest of the bucking horses that didn’t “make the cut.” I stood there and watched them unload — and watched him stand there, calm, broken, waiting. When I walked into the pen, he walked straight up to me. A horse trained to avoid humans. That moment changed everything. I knew we had to get him safe. There was no other option. Today, he’s standing on green grass instead of concrete, learning that not all hands hurt. This is what happens when people look beyond the label. Beyond “bucking horse.” Beyond “unwanted” and work to find a solution for them— I did, and you trusted me to do that. Prairie is proof that they all deserve a second chance. And for the record — not all rodeos send their horses to slaughter. There are stock contractors who love their horses and treat them like family and keep them forever. But there are also the ones who don’t. The ones who see profit over life. When I was a kid, I remember watching “wild horses” run into the arena at a rodeo. I didn’t think they looked wild — not like the mustangs I saw in books. It wasn’t until years later that I learned they weren’t wild at all. They were bucking horses — and many would never leave that life alive. I never went to a rodeo after that. Prairie deserves THIS life 🤍 they all do.
