People applauding WOKE don't understand Finnish humor. "It's hyperbole" is 100% bang on. My best professors made fun of us when we got things wrong... and it made learning highly motivational and relaxing. But Linus is 100% on the money with "you can pick who you get along with."

Linux isn't some basement, bootleg system it's designed, coded, and maintained largely by companies and commercial entities where you're expected to be kind, courteous, and professional. asking for basic decency and those kind of professional values isn't "politically correct" it's just correct.

It's ok to not respect someone as an equal, or as an engineer, you can make them earn that, but everyone should get basic level of human respect.

In my opinion, respect for you as an individual or person is a given, while respect from a professional perspective must be earned. I agree that he only wants to work with those he considers at his level, but from a human perspective, respect should be a given.

Linus has actually put in the work to earn respect. And as an adult, I agree. You can and should choose who you work with. People should have matching work ethics. I prefer his honest replies to anything because they enable progress and moving forward. He does not have to be nice, he was chosen to be a benevolent dictator for life for the kernel. Because he does good work.

Oddly enough, saying that some other people don't have the same viewpoint and that's okay IS a form of respect. So he does have a baseline level of automatic respect for others, even if he himself can't recognize it.
