The theft was discovered this morning around 8:00AM when staff noticed an empty space where the painting once hung. Police believe the thief may have hidden inside the museum overnight before escaping with the artwork. Though not among the museum’s most famous pieces, officials say the theft is deeply embarrassing for the institution.
