@pang__bang: This is the perfect place to visit in October for its fall colors and spooky past 🍂👻 A little history: Jim Thorpe was a world famous Native American athlete, often referred to as the greatest athlete of all time. After his passing, the struggling towns of Mauch Chunk and East Mauch Chunk accepted his remains and renamed their town Jim Thorpe to honor him and to save the town from going broke. 📍Jim Thorpe is about a 2 hour drive from NYC, 1.5 hours from Philly, and 4.5 hours from Pittsburgh making it an easy fall weekend getaway from the Northeast. Here’s how to spend a weekend exploring this charming historic town ⬇️ Day 1 – Friday ⛰️ Check into your stay in downtown Jim Thorpe and try your best to find a place that includes parking otherwise you will have to pay each day. The Harry Packer Mansion holds murder mysteries a few times per year for guests and I’d LOVE to do this someday. 🍸 Spend your first night sipping drinks on the porch of the haunted Harry Packer Mansion or The Inn. 🍗 Grab dinner downtown and stroll through the cobblestone streets lit by lanterns. The garlic buffalo wings at Notch Eight Craft House were SOOOO GOOD I went back for seconds. Day 2 – Saturday 🚌 Hop on the Jim Thorpe Trolley Tour to learn the town’s fascinating and spooky history. 🛍️ Wander Race Street and Broadway for vintage shops, boutiques, and cafés. 🚴♀️ Go biking or whitewater rafting through Lehigh Gorge State Park where the fall views are unreal. Day 3 – Sunday ☕️ Start your morning with coffee at Curiosities Coffee House or Muggles Mug. 🚂 Ride the Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railroad for sweeping mountain views. 🏚️ Visit the Old Jail Museum to see the eerie handprint left by a prisoner who claimed innocence. ⛏️ End your trip with the No. 9 Mine Tour, one of Pennsylvania’s oldest coal mines and one of the coolest tours I’ve ever done. I live 5 minutes away. Only come if you want to spend 1-2 hours finding a parking spot and sit in traffic all day. It’s beautiful here but it’s not worth it for the traffic.

Absolutely not. The town basically bought a human beings remains to make a tourist attraction out of. Jim Thorpes body needs to be returned to Oklahoma.

Great place, unfortunately stores are open 11-3pm usually. Very little nightlife. Extremely quiet. Great architecture and train.
