Google was not interested in competing with Apple. All they wanted was an ecosystem in which there is no monopoly of IOS for software. Google is still not interested in a phone all they want is an open system for AI and search that feeds data to their LLMs

Google has tried, but they can’t give up the “user is the product”. Top end Android phones are good, but it’s always a poor iOS imitation. The “new” features are almost always half baked. Wait until Apple refines it to be actually useful.
