Ever wake up with neck pain and can't turn your head for days? It's easy to think that your world is ending when every move of your head sends pain blasting through your neck. However, you are going to be okay! ALL YOU DID WAS SLEEP! People have become increasingly fearful of every little pain that they experience. Ever wake up with neck pain and can't turn your head for days? It's easy to think that your world is ending when every move of your head sends pain blasting through your neck. However, you are going to be okay! ALL YOU DID WAS SLEEP! People have become increasingly fearful of every little pain that they experience. When the pain is unexplained and isn't the result of a traumatic event (car crash, fall, dropping a weight on your head), then there likely isn't a cause for concern. We often thing that pain = tissue damage, but when it comes to "sleeping wrongly" you are totally fine. There is no damage. Maybe a "joint is locked up" and causing muscles to spasm around the area, but this doesn't mean that your body is suffering from tissue damage. When you recognize that you will actually be fine, it may actually reduce your pain. Pain is interpreted in the mind and if you think that the pain causing damage to your neck, then you will likely tense up, have shallow breathing, and catastrophize - all things that can worsen pain. If you can follow the steps in the video and tackle this issue proactively, with curiosity and positivity, then it may actually only take a day to resolve. Lastly, you didn't sleep wrong. Usually we see this "crick in the neck" from people who slept HARD and didn't move much at night while also having their neck turn far to one side. This is not something that will damage us. Be patient, keep moving, breathe, and relax!
