Why pay 4-10 bucks twice for a down and back when you can get around on a train for half the price? Taxi's in large cities are not the play in Japan. Lived there for 2 years and only used them a handful of times.

Yes! I second on the taxis. Sometimes in the end of the day you just want to ride in a car comfortably to your accommodation after that 20k+ steps than hold all your belongings to the train to save that extra money. And sometimes it’s even faster than trains.
