McDonald’s and Starbucks apps couldn’t even take orders. Even the government’s websites tapped out. It started with a small database error in AWS’s Virginia data center, then boom...over 6.5 million outage reports across more than 1,000 apps and sites. One hiccup in Amazon’s cloud turned into a full-on digital blackout. AWS runs almost everything behind the scenes, your favorite games, banking apps, even streaming and AI tools. When it crashes, the entire internet sneezes. By Monday night things were back online, but the lesson hit hard: the cloud isn’t as “everywhere” as we think.
