as someone going into the field of early childhood & adolescent development & education (hopefully i can also minor in psych 🤞🏼), the concept of social media and the effects it can have on a individual long term no matter the age is crazy, especially since people on here consuming content think they are fully educated on things when in reality they are truly not (no one really is). you’re also not being overly empathetic or overreacting, you’re having a normal human reaction. 🫶🏼

I read somewhere that people were never meant to see this many hot people in their life time. Not just attractive in a regular sense but people who are sooo attractive it’s what they are known for. It has absolutely messed up our standards for beauty especially since those people are usually at the top of all social media algorithms bc of their looks. You start to believe everyone is supposed to look like that and if they don’t it’s bc they are actually “ugly and not attractive at all”. It’s shocking what different generations find attractive. I work with a lot of people who are 70+ and they compliment me like I’m some ethereal fairy when I think I look very average 🤣 idk if this in entirely making sense but I hope you got the gist of it. Stay safe queen and if you ever need to talk hmu 🫶🏼 I’m very lucky to have friends who keep me grounded and remind me online life is not everything it’s made out to be. ⭐

I want to say the internet was worse around the years closest to 2000, but it's probably a lot worse with more kids, mainly boys, believing fascism and misogyny is funny and edgy. Also having a president who fuels it doesn't help. The r-slur has been revived after it had been pushed out of pop culture and people's vocabulary along with homophobic insults. People have certainly become more cruel on the internet, like the 90s/early 00s still had racists and homophobes still comfortable to be out but we didn't have thousands of politicians and regular people become celebrities for their cruelty and get to profit from it. Obviously we didn't have the reach to compare to how expansive social media is today, but humans ability to be truly vile to someone they don't know for no reason has for sure increased a million times.
