Because the cheap environments is where everybody is trying to survive. And humans are dangerous when they’re in survival mode. We saw a little bit of it during Covid over the toilet paper debacle.

It reminds of this book I read about how societies are built. The trust economy is a currency that the lower-class is dimly aware of. In upper-class circles where resources are abundant a favor carries tremendous weight.
