My son has been in his room since the Pandemic… he is 24. I’m in counseling . I am extremely sad he’s not living a life I am anxious, and feel I’ve failed. He plays video games all night and sleeps all day. Any suggestions? He’s not working either…

I’m not a parent, but I still live with my parents. I have a neurodiversity disability. I like being in my room after work because it feels safe and I get to destress from sensory overload. It’s actually very peaceful in the room.

You just described my 19-year-old son. I don’t understand where my mistake is. My 21 year-old daughter is in law school and my 27-year-old finish school & working. I’m lost. 😭

at what point does the adult child (23 son) need to push himself even though he’s petrified? I have been making it “ to comfortable “ for him I have been told

Sometimes you just need to ask them if you want a hug. I asked my 20 yr old son that today and he broke down crying. I always say it doesn’t matter how bad it gets or what you’ve done - you have to come to me, we’ll fix it together.

My dad got fed up with my older brother who was still at home at 22, he took him into the city, dropped him off at the YMCA to get a room with $45, and told him to get a job.

I’m requiring my adult kids still at home to find one volunteer activity out of the house each week (minimum 2hours) and one activity each week (also around 2 hours). There are so many things like Rotary clubs, toastmasters, learning new skills/crafts, sports, clubs etc and everyone is always looking for volunteers so literally *anything* he wants. Forced purposeful interaction while doing something meaningful and fun. Also social and out of the house. It leads to more opportunities and better moods.

🤔 I don't understand the youth of today. I blame parents for letting them bed rot on computer games. we were never in our rooms unless going to sleep. they eat in there and everything. 🙈

He’s in his room decompressing from a 10 hour day as a blue collar worker saving money to go to college; he’s in his room sleeping, chatting with friends, gaming, watching a movie. And this was also after family dinner. Aline time isn’t bad.

Most parents are broken themselves and don’t have the tools to help their kids. That’s a huge problem.

This works. Be present and consistent and calm. Lead by love not fear or anxiety, do not be a persistent observer of their shortcomings 👌

I was intentional and with clarity this morning. I told my daughter to get out of bed and out the door and go search for a job. Don’t come back after 5pm and she’ll have a place to stay.
