@t_nutrition_fitness: Replying to @Kingsley This is just a deeper understanding of thermodynamics. It doesn’t contradict it. Assuming you could eat 2000cal worth of celery (which you could given enough time) no you will not put as many of those calories towards storage as you would 2000cal worth of ice cream. Even if the ice cream had 86% thermogenesis wouldn’t it still make you fatter because of the composition?

So the reason the one eating icecream would get fatter is cuz it takes less energy to metabolize icecream than celery? I’m confusion

But doesnt calorie labels already exclude what you are going to burn digesting it so that its only the net positive number you get?

For those who don’t get it, of the 2000 kcal of celery, at a DIT of 86%, you actually on have a Kcal net gain of 280 kcal, where if we assume ice cream is around 7% (average for high fat low carb sugar foods), at 2000 kcal you would have a Net Kcal gain of 1860 Kcal - meaning the TRUE reality is 280 kept Kcal of celery Vs keep 1860 Kcal of ice cream = you get fatter of the ice cream as your retaining 1580 more Kcal

Shouldnt those calories be excluded from nutrition lables if that's the general case for celery. Like fibre has calories but depending on if our body can process it or not it's excluded and counted as 0 calorie tho. I might be completely off but it feels wrong when it's such an extreme difference from the technical calories to what our body can actually use.

if you don’t get fatter from 2k calories of ice cream vs 2k calories of celery then calories are the only thing that cause you to get fatter no?

at this point this is just arguing semantics, they obviusly were thinking about net 2000 calories in their mind.
