"Fail Faster" is probably one of the best pieces of advice I still think about. Sure, knowing how to do it is the goal, but understanding why other things don't work is good too.

I want to get into homelabbing, create a NAS, have my own VPN, all that Jazz. But the initial foot in the door just keeps feeling so incredibly overwhelming. I've tried googling what a Proxmox container is and I still don't really understand the bare bones of it. Any suggestions on where to start when you have exactly 0 knowledge?

So ProxMox and NAS are the same machine? Or do I need to have more than 1 computer for your recommendations?

I got my hands on a used Lenovo ST250 V1 off of ebay and have been using that as my home server, its been my first real full dive into linux and ive loved it so far. I've mainly been using Ubuntu server and have been making VMs for each service I want to make like DNS/Samba and DHCP. Been learning Vim as well and every time I learn something new about it I like it more than any other text editor I've used. I plan on completely wiping and starting over today since i understand a bit better what im actually doing and can make it cleaner

Been looking into this over the past few weeks and still confused. For example, I am wanting a NAS that can also run docker containers but then I’m reading that a diy NAS is better vs synology. There are so many posts on variations of diy NAS it’s hard to figure out where to start

I’ve already got a homelab setup with my own media hosting, reverse proxy manager to use custom domains for my services, Tailscale, and cloud storage and I’m looking to pivot to working in IT. What kinds of job titles should I be looking at if I don’t have any professional experience?
