@farmwithzoe: Think I made a good decision? Now soybeans on the other hand... harvest basis keeps improving which is abnormal, but like many farmers l've decided to hold on to more than I typically would post harvest. #grainmarkets #harvest25 #basis
Might be a different story next year with Lewis driffis

An old man (farmer) once told me, "More money has been lost on this farm waiting for another nickel". "If you've got it to sell, sell it when somebody wants it." Was he the wealthiest person in the County, nope. Did he own, or rent all the acres, nope. Did he retire and have everything he needed when he did? Yep. A few acres owned, and a huge pile of cash.

I’m glad someone is making good marketing decisions, it seems like for the last two years I’ve found myself saying “wish I would’ve done that differently” lol

I manage a grain elevator for a large farm in south western Ontario. And we always play the carry of old crop versus new crop and the best advice I could give is pick corn early. Ethanol plants try to manage daily output. But typically in August grain bins in the country side start to run out. And they struggle to fulfil their daily grind

Sometimes you have to take the opportunity when it presents itself. Hindsight is always 20/20, but you made a great decision!

I’ve been beside myself that I flew through beans without a snag. Started in in corn and now have only managed to shell 50-55 acres in almost 8 days thanks to breakdown after breakdown. Deere calls today “sorry we didn’t get done today hopefully tomorrow morning etc” I would typically be a little spicy but the markets are over $4 for the first time since last winter. Maybe the breakdowns were my luck or divine intervention to slow down? Now I can sell landlord corn for 20-30 cents more than what it was worth at the start of harvest. Dumb luck? I’ll take it 😅

there is no such thing a phantom yeild loss. there was never phantom yeild loss before people got yeild monitors in their combines. its nothing but farmers who get hung up on test with as a calculation for blushes, but the elevator doesn't give a damn about your test weight unless it's awful (which wet corn test weight is) the only thing you're losing by letting it dry in the field is water, and the elevator shrinks that out anyway.
