I swear I crash out every time I hear someone call it “Sam-hane.” Especially in movies or TV shows.

the show Supernatural definitely didnt help. Sam pronounces it as two separate words with a lot of emphasis on the H. Sam Hane he says. if only they had met Rowena sooner...

So, whats the evidence that samhainn was appropriated by Halloween when All Saints Day is different and there are very few actual sources for samhainn before the early modern era.

I love the show Supernatural but that one episode with Samhain where they pronounce it like an American would sound it out bothers me so much 😂

how cool, I didn't realize there was a difference between the pronunciations in Scotland and Ireland. I've always said Sow-in because of my Irish heritage but it's neat to know the other options 🥰

just a reminder that Halloween does not come from Samhain. it may have had some influence but it's not the biggest influence or the most popular influence at all.

Correction: The November 1st holy day was held by Christians dating to the reign of Nero, when Christian’s were still meeting in secret in crypts and tombs. So basically right from the beginning. The modern Halloween is a mish mash of the two festivals.
