I was an asylum seeker and was granted asylum. I now work in healthcare and contribute greatly to my community and this great country. What this lady went through is devastating, and may her soul rest in peace. But this man has a name. Calling him only “asylum seeker” and framing it that way stigmatizes others and makes it seem like asylum seekers are criminals. Almost every news outlet is leading with “asylum seeker found guilty,” which is unfair and misleading.
