Wouldn’t the attacking creature die as well? Since the blocking 2/2 would be doubled to 4?

question, me and my buddies was playing. I had a 10/10 indestructible, double strike and trample. I swung at my friend that blocked with a 12/12 indestructible. does my damage still go through since my creature had double strike with trample.

I'm sitting here right after the question was posed without seeing the end, but 3/3 trample with double damage, i think is going to go like this, assign 2 damage to the creature (since it has to be assigned lethal damage, and damage isn't doubled until damage is dealt) and player takes 2

Then you get double strike and it’s more fun

this is when the green player just makes gotta things so unbelievably large that he doesnt have to worry about assigning enough, he can trample enough to deal lethal regardless

But it’s also a bit confusing that it works differently theb deathtouch. Both happens “on damage” - but one of them gets to deal 1 damage - while the other must deal 2. I get the difference - but it’s not super intuitive.

I had to learn this for Uncivil Unrest, which is in nearly all my red decks because it's so fun

lethal damage must be assigned BEFORE modifiers like double damage. Deathtouch is not a modifier it just makes all damage lethal. Double strike is two separate instances of damage being done and triggers on damage abilities twice. Last strike *exists* and does not stop the first two damages if the creature also has double strike. So many little nuances.

how does trample interact with damage prevention effects? for example, i use a 7/7 trampler against a 5/5 that states that “all combat damage dealt to this creature is prevented. when damage is prevented this way, put a +1/+1 counter on this creature”
