@katyrobinbird: I met Doug at a time in my life when I was reclaiming myself — after a divorce, after losing my mom to cancer, after launching my new filmmaking business all my own. I’d picked up the pieces of me and was traveling the world, exploring new places, sharing stories through my work, and rediscovering how much joy I felt in the freedom to adventure. When Doug and I met, we just knew. And we knew we wanted to raise a family together. But what about that bonding mountain adventure time together? How would we get that? Since we met later in life and wanted kids, we grieved that we might not get to share the kind of time and the connection that comes with it. OMG what little we knew of what was to come. Parenthood wasn’t the end our adventuring… it was the beginning of a new chapter. A new flavor of adventure you could say. One more exciting (and challenging) than we ever dreamed. ✨ There wasn’t a moment Doug and I said, hey let’s be an ‘adventure family.’ We just knew we were going to keep doing what made us happy, with kids in tow. What our parents did with us — be outside, breathe fresh air, move our bodies in nature, take in sunsets and stars, be inspired by the natural world, and feel connected through shared experiences like this. And we didn’t want to wait until our kids were older, so we had babies and kept adventuring.
