The promotion of staying in and prioritizing mental health has turned into not attending social gatherings or being there for ppl because “I didn’t have the energy or headspace for it”. It gets to a certain point like you said where it’s just selfish.

I honestly disagree with this slightly, I think there's balance needed. For a lot of people it's a privilege to live in a hyperindividualist society. Many people from Asian countries move to America to escape the abuse that is perpetuated from their collectivist society. There definitely should be a balance but the freedom to choose your connections should never be taken for granted.

100% agree with all of this! yes it is important to take care of ourselves, but the whole point of friendship is to be there for each other, not just for hangouts and parties, but to be involved in other people’s lives.
