@danielalovesthelab: How do you know when to check for a clot? Our system has it so that any PTT result below 20 seconds will flag as a warning to check for a clot. Any low result should be analyzed carefully to ensure accurate results. A clotted sample will give artificially shortened clotting time, but a true shortened PT/PTT can be seen in a variety of clinical conditions including disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC), cancers, hyperthyroidism, post-transfusion of plasma or cryo, etc.
