Africa’s vulnerability is deepened by a lack of structures to identify, repatriate, and protect victims. To confront this crisis, we call for urgent international action and offer three key recommendations: 1️⃣ Protect survivors through immigration and visa reform Victims coerced into criminal activities must never be punished for their exploitation. Immigration systems must safeguard them, not imprison or deport them. 2️⃣ Strengthen international cooperation Scamming compounds operate across borders. Dismantling them requires unified global efforts, intelligence-sharing, and survivor-centered justice. 3️⃣ Build stronger African protection systems Invest in victim identification, safe repatriation pathways, and prosecution models that put survivors first. Without this, the cycle of exploitation will continue. These scamming compounds are not just criminal operations, they are a modern weapon of war targeting the world’s most vulnerable.
