I think ppl gravitated to the novelty and luxury of plane travel once prices became more affordable. But now it's neither of those things, so I can totally see bus travel as the better option. I talk about it sometimes but always end up driving bc it makes more sense for the group I'm traveling with or flying bc it'll take less time. In your circumstances, bus would've been grand. You'd have to be just as trusting of the bus "pilot" as the airplane pilot and of the ppl you're riding with, but with a lot less hassle by bus.

I travel Amtrak for fun at least once a year. Get your own first class room. Three meals a day and get to see the scenery up close. Best route is Chicago to SF. Wanna join me on my next train trip or my next scuba diving trip to Belize?

The bus. That drive can be ugly. More and more I’m taking I-20 East to Columbia then I-77 North to Charlotte. Anything to stay out of that I-85 corridor between Atlanta and Charlotte
