#pov — urs. (oneshot) Beach day. I was sitting on our spot — well, technically, their favorite spot. I wasn’t that close to them; I only really knew Abby and Kristel. Pero kasi, it’s Hearts Day, a small beach celebration lang daw, and they dragged me along since ako lang daw mag-isa sa bahay. “Won’t you go with them?” Jeremiah asked. I looked up. We weren’t exactly close, but I knew him — thanks to Abby and Kristel, who wouldn’t stop pestering me to watch their vlogs. “I can’t swim,” I said, shaking my head. “Eh ikaw ba? Why are you here?” I finally gathered the courage to ask. Kasi naman, kanina pa siya rito. Kahit anong hila at hatak sa kanya nina Domeng at Siko, hindi siya natinag. Knowing him? Dapat kanina pa ‘to tumatalon sa dagat. “I can’t leave you here alone,” he said simply. Ayan na naman siya — that tone, that look. The kind that made it sound like I actually mattered. He’s always been like this — simula nung inasar ako ni Siko sa kanya. I mean, I do have a small crush on him. Kahit wala pa siyang ginagawa, kahit presence lang niya, parang wala na akong composure. He knows exactly how to catch my attention. Small things always get to me — the way he laughs, the way he looks at me when he thinks I’m not noticing. Kaya kahit simpleng bagay lang, tumatalon na agad ang puso ko sa kaba. — I was with Abby and Kristel when he suddenly sat beside me. Hindi ko agad siya napansin kasi I was busy ranting to them. “Ang aga pa,” I said, still yawning. “Hindi pa nga ako kumakain, nagyayaya agad kayo,” I snapped, making them laugh. “Kain muna,” he said simply. A short, simple statement — but my heart? Biglang nagising. It was stupid, really. Just two words, said so casually, pero may kung anong lambing sa boses niya na hindi ko alam kung guni-guni ko lang o sadyang may gusto talaga siyang iparamdam. He was confusing me. Palaging ganito — kapag kaming dalawa lang, or kapag tahimik lang sa paligid, he’d act like this. Sweet. Warm. Like I actually meant something. Pero pagdating sa maraming tao, lalo na kapag nandiyan ‘yung mga kakilala niya, biglang nag-iiba. Parang hindi niya ako kilala. And that’s what messes me up the most — how he can make me feel seen one moment, and invisible the next. — I was cold, and I didn’t even realize it until my arms started to tremble a little. The wind from the shore was stronger now, brushing against my skin. I tried to rub my hands together for warmth, pero hindi masyado nakatulong. “Lamig?” he asked, his voice low. I glanced at him and nodded slightly. “Medyo.” Wala siyang sinabi after that, but a few seconds later, he stood up, took off his jacket, and placed it on my shoulders. “Dito. Baka magkasakit ka.” I froze. His hand brushed the side of my neck for just a moment—barely even a touch—but it was enough to make my whole body tense. It wasn’t intentional, maybe, but it didn’t feel like an accident either. “Thanks,” I said, trying to sound casual, pero halata ata sa boses ko ‘yung kaba. He just smiled, that same calm, teasing smile he always gives when he knows he’s done something that messed with my head. “You should really learn to bring a jacket next time,” he said. “Or maybe you should stop giving me yours,” I replied, trying to sound playful. “Why would I stop?” he said, tilting his head slightly, eyes not leaving mine. “You look better wearing it anyway.” I laughed softly, hoping he didn’t notice how I avoided his gaze. But I felt his stare linger—too steady, too familiar. And that’s when I realized, it’s always moments like this. Small things, quiet gestures, almost nothings… but they’re the ones that mess me up the most. — tama ka na. [ #jeoong #jeoongedits #jeremiahemmanuelong #fyp ]
