I feel like it should've been 500. like 500 is a lot but it's alright. when I finished the game I had just under 400 battles done (I think 380 ish)

if you have a turbo controller go to the restaurant in the bottem right of the map and afk battel until you reach 1000, ieft mine for the night and i got it
