Check your coolant temp sensor that runs to the ecu there might another that’s for the gauge cluster. Older vehicles rely on temperature for fueling/timing, I’m only guessing. That’s if checking the ignition system didn’t help

it's best to check temperature gauge or the coolant itself as old cars rely on proper temperature and coolant pressure before checking the fuel system and intake for clogs

if you whack it wide open and it pops and sputters, at least in the motorcycle world, that means a too rich condition. too much fuel going into the intake. if you whack it wide open and I just died, that's lean, not enough fuel
