Ostrogoths took Italy from west Rome not the visigoths they went into Iberia and conquered it from them and the Roman’s didn’t allow any immigration these Germanic tribes were employed as foderati or barbarian allies to fight romes wars. They were given a certain level of autonomy inside romes borders and it worked well for a century but Roman leadership was week and corrupt at the end and the tribes believed they could run the empire better so they took it with barely a fight as the Roman citizens were also extremely dissatisfied with their rulers.
