I live in very red WV. This is a sentiment I see too often. But there was one shining light, a man who owns several local grocery stores is starting to give away non perishable items at all of his stores. He was doing it out of his own pocket. Finally made a go fund me with a goal of 5k. It currently is sitting at over 30k. His actions have inspired other businesses to do similar. I’d be happy to give my last dollar if that meant someone could eat too.

I told my 16 year old that if any of her friends are hungry, she just needs to let me know. She said "I already planned on it!" and thats how we do it at our house. we should all strive to be as empathetic as our kids.

nobody votes to be hungry. even the adults who voted for this didn't know they were voting for this (most of them at least). propaganda is REAL, and people who fall for it are victims. yes, adults should be held accountable but systemic undereducated is so real and people can only be held to the standard that they're capable of achieving, and undereducation impacts this so deeply.

People often rightly criticize churches for not actually working in the community, but in my small town, it’s the liberal mainlines housing folks over winter and the uber conservative church that runs a free food truck and a free after school program. They don’t ask questions, just give out food and take care of kids. They are known in the community for their generosity, not their truly awful political takes. We can’t be worse than them. 😬

Yknow every school event I went to in elementary school had an entry fee of a can of food. Soup, stew, vegetables it didn’t matter as long as it was food for others. You best believe me and my sister went with several cans. Even though we are selves revived snap benefits.

The number of houses I saw serving food tonight for trick or treaters ON TOP of handing out candy made me want to cry. 🥺 I saw pizzas. I saw hot dogs on grills with chips and drinks.
