This might suprise you, but I don’t like before and after photos. I’ve never liked them. I didn’t find them inspiring when I was at my bigger size. And now, in my healthier body, I don’t like using them to show the changes I’ve made. I feel like they don’t give enough credit to the journey. And they don’t give enough grace or admiration to the “before” version. Because if it wasn’t for that before version of me, I wouldn’t be the version of me that I am now. That’s who decided to make a change. That’s who believed in herself and chose to transform her life. That’s who loved herself enough to start living like it. This is why I love to mostly show my transformation through videos like this where you see the changes over time. It’s not a before and after. It’s a before, during and present. Visual before and afters imply that I’m a better version of myself because I look different. Because I’m smaller. That’s not why I’m a better version of myself. I’m a better version of myself because I’m: healthier more confident stronger more vulnerable living fuller more resilient wiser more self aware freer If only you could see all of that in a photo. But, you can’t. And I need you to know it’s about so much more than looking different. I need you to know that I’m still not an “after.” I never will be. And I never want to be. I will forever be during. In the middle. Growing. Evolving. Transforming. Reaching. Not because I don’t think I’m enough as I am, because I do. But because I love myself enough to know there’s always room to grow. There’s always space to become healthier—mentally, emotionally, spiritually, relationally, financially and physically. This isn’t my “after”… it’s my present. It’s not the end of my journey, it’s a continued process. I am so much more than a before and after.
