Tens of thousands were displaced to detention camps in central and southern Iraq, while many young men and boys disappeared without a trace. --- ☠️ The Halabja Massacre One of the most infamous events of the Anfal Campaign was the Halabja Massacre in March 1988, when the Iraqi army used poison gas against civilians in the city of Halabja, killing around 5,000 people in a single day. --- ⚖️ Consequences The campaign was later recognized as an act of genocide against the Kurdish people by the Iraqi High Tribunal in 2007.
