@sharp_physiotherapy: You’re trying to stay active, but your shoulder keeps getting in the way. It aches when you reach overhead, pinches across the top, and sometimes even builds into a headache by the end of the day. So you rest it, stretch it, maybe use anti-inflammatories, but somehow, the pain always finds its way back. The reason? It’s often not just a shoulder problem. When the upper traps become overactive, they restrict how the shoulder blade moves. This forces the smaller stabilising muscles to work overtime, creating that familiar cycle of tightness, weakness, and pain. One of the first movements you lose is the ability to lift your arm out to the side while rotating it outward. It seems small, but it’s a key part of how your shoulder moves when you reach, lift, or press overhead. Once that motion is lost, the shoulder starts to compensate which leads to impingement, tendon strain, and ongoing irritation. The good news is that this movement can usually be restored. With the right combination of hands-on release work and focused retraining, the shoulder begins to move freely again, tension drops, and strength returns.
