Most people support safety net programs like food stamps for fellow citizens who are in genuine, temporary need. The frustration arises in two specific cases: first, with the exploitation of immigration loopholes, where individuals enter the country illegally, have a child, and then receive extensive government assistance through that child's citizenship. Second, there is concern about the system's long-term abuse by those who treat it as a permanent crutch rather than a temporary hand up. The intent of food stamps is to provide short-term stability, not to foster indefinite dependency.

I could easily save that $36/year towards food on my own table rsther than those who abuse the system out of laziness

This data isn’t really verifiable. And let’s say it really is only $36 a year and let’s say there’s 200million taxpayers that’s 7.5billion dollars….. the us spends over 100billion in snap benefits per year…. This is a problem

In 2022, approximately 153.8 million tax returns were filed. That is around 5,814,000,000 dollars. To fund the snap program there is an allotment of 99.8 billion. Take the amount of people who paid federal taxes, 174m in 2024 and figure out the findings is an average of about 573 dollars a year. I don't know where Google is directly getting this information but the math is pretty simple. I'm not saying you are wrong. The world benefits by helping others, but for some families 500 dollars is a lot. The lower class gets the taxes back at the end of the year and the one percent can afford to pay, so the families hindered are the middle class who is usually the main brunt of taxes coming in since the one percent isn't taxed enough in my opinion. 🤷🏼♀

Incorrect. The $36/year figure came from 2003 and assumed all people paid taxes. It’s now just a talking point for the uneducated. The actual figure is $270/year for the median taxpayer. The average spikes to $880/year.

You are assuming that everyone pays taxes. They don’t. Only about 40% of Americans actually pay some federal tax.
